COMMEMORATING, CAMPAIGNING & ADVOCATING FOR THE 50 VICTIMS WHO PERISHED IN THE SUMMERLAND FIRE
About us:
Our charity (The Summerland Memorial Limited No. 1320) has been campaigning for justice for the victims and the family members of the Summerland disaster and for a memorial to be placed on the site. Through media interviews, annual events and services, we have raised awareness of the disaster and advocated for more action and support for the survivors and families of the victims.
Our events include the annual one minute silence on the Summerland site (held since 2014), the Summerland Memorial concert, and the Summerland 50: Remembering for the future exhibition.
We have also campaigned through meetings with Isle of Man Government Members of the House of Keys; UK Members of Parliament and online petitions calling for a fitting memorial installed on the site, and justice for the families of 50 victims whose deaths were given a perverse death by misadventure verdict.
Our Mission:
'The advancement of the history and heritage of the Isle of Man, namely the tragic fire which destroyed the Summerland Leisure Centre on the 2 August 1973, by the creation of a permanent historical record and educational programme concerning the fire and its continuing impact within the Island community and beyond; and the erection of a permanent memorial to commemorate those who lost their lives or were otherwise affected by the fire.'
